Creating Pages with iWork

Creating Pages with iWork : Visual Quick Project Guide (Visual
Quickproject Series) by David Morris
Published by Peachpit Press ISBN: 0-321-35755-8 $12.99
The guide lines for a Visual Quick Project are:

0-You don' t need to know every feature.
0-Full color illustrations.
0-Low price.
This book meets those guide lines, plus it is short, only 129
pages and that includes the index. The main thrust of the book is to
teach you how to create stationery, design a flyer and create a newsletter.
You are not going to become an expert in iWork by reading this book,
but you will have a strong foundation on which to build.
Do not plan to set down in one evening to read this book. That is
not how this book is designed. You work along with the author in
creating the projects. Don't worry about doing a lot of typing. You are
provided with a web site where you can down load the parts of the
projects. Perhaps one of the best features is that you can download a copy of
completed files so you can see on your computer what the finished
project should look like. The real fun starts when you try to figure out what
you did wrong. That is also when the learning takes place. There are
chapters on designing a flyer, creating a newsletters, building more
complex content (e.g. tables and graphs), and publishing your newsletter.
This as a great supplement to the User's Guide which accompanies the
iWorks software. Reading this Visual QuickProject Guide makes one
realize that Pages goes way beyond the very basic capabilities of word
processing. And that is the strength and differentiating element of Pages
over other word processing programs. Pages is an elegant word processor
with very impressive features. This book allows you to learn these
features in a clear, concise sort of way. The big color illustrations and
step-by-step instructions set this book apart from the classical user
manual.
Depending on your skill level, it may take you a while to finish the
book, however this hands on type of learning is well worth the effort.
The book is a real value at $12.99
